Open Question: Seoul or Tokyo - Which should I visit?

Me and my mother are planning on going to either Seoul or Tokyo this summer but we can't choose. We were in Beijing last year and it was amazing. We want plenty of sightseeing, shopping and an overall good vibe. The food is not that important to us. Also, when in Seoul, is it possible to easily do a day trip/tour to the DMZ border.
