Open Question: I bought a used car with a bad transmission.. advice?

7 September 2010, 3:47 pm

Hello, : ( I didn't know anything was wrong with my car when I purchased it. about 3 months ago, I purchase a used automatic 2002 Honda Civic by a Honda dealer. It was over 120k miles when I bought it so I couldn't get a warranty. Just 2 weeks ago, I started noticing something weird going on with the gears and I thought I just needed a tune up. I got an Oil Change and was going to schedule for a tune up the following week, but I had a mechanic check it for free and he said I needed a new transmission. I got a second opinion and he also said I needed a new transmission. The dealership said there is nothing they can do since I purchased it "As Is". I need some advice as to what to do with the car. I got a price on a used transmission of 1,500. Not including the labor. That's about 1k too much for me : (. This is the first car I ever bought and I brought everyone I knew with me when I bought it hoping I don't screw this up. Everyone thought it was a great car and everything checked out. They did an over all inspection, but had no reason to go any deeper than the normal as there was no warning lights or odd noises coming from the car. I'm shiiiiit outta luck. I bought this car with my last savings because the very old, but reliable civic my mom passed down to me was totaled when I parked it in front of my boyfriends house and some kid thought he was a tokyo drifter (no rainfall at all)and smashed into my car 7min after I got inside of it with my bf trying to decide what to eat for dinner. I've had some crapass luck and I'd like to know if anyone has advice for me as to what I should do with the car. It is sitting at the shop collecting dust. I don't have any money to really fix it or buy a new car and I wouldn't make much money selling it as is. What do I do? : (... Read More »
